What is Drayage?

Chariot Logistics helps to make the drayage process as smooth as possible for everyone. Drayage is the part of an import/export or intermodal shipments where a drayman picks up a container and chassis from the depot, loads it at the shipper and returns to the port or railhead for shipment. Its success depends on your relationship with the carrier, and that’s one of the reasons why Chariot Logistics is able to be very successful in drayage. It is those relationships that we have with our carriers and the relationships that those carriers have with the depots, the ports, the rail heads and all of the areas that they do business in, that keeps everything running smoothly.

And it's not just the relationships! It's the fact that those drivers are strictly drayman. They're not doing over-the-road shipments. They're sticking to drayage loads day in and day out. They're going to the same areas most of the time — the same rail heads, the same ports, using the same chassis companies and the same depots. So, they're able to build relationships and, in turn, leverage those relationships if and when problems arise, or more importantly, to mitigate problems.

We pride ourselves at Chariot Logistics in developing very deep relationships with all of our carriers and treating them the right way for a great customer service experience. Zach Walker, our Director of Drayage, works hand in hand with his staff to develop, cultivate and keep top-notch relationships with drivers all over the country of some of the largest ports and rail heads.
